Kim Mayor, Wendell, North Carolina:
The book is absolutely phenomenal! We read through it with Katie and Michael (9 and 11) and Ash read it herself sitting at my desktop. This is the response I got from them: "how neat — when can we go crabbing?!"and "Ms Betty is a good writer!"“I think there are enough topics in there to write a couple of books! Crabbing, about dolphins, Georgia island life … you have a real gift for drawing a mental picture with words”!

Crabbing Days of an Islander is filled with practical aspects of life that may be missing in the lives of most children today. Betty describes how her daily activities often contributed to providing sustenance for the family dinner table. She has added some great recipes for preparing the fresh seafood that was abundant in those days. I am anxious to revisit some of my own childhood memories by visiting the shore again, using Betty’s fishing, shrimp netting, and crabbing techniques again, and preparing the catch of the day using her recipes. I look forward to sharing this with my grandchildren. I know many readers, young and old, will be appreciative of Betty Cory’s wonderful book.
Working with Betty to publish her book, I not only gained a intelligent, caring, and strong woman as a friend, but her words and pictures gave me a wonderful view of St. Simons Island during the magical time of her childhood, taking me to a simpler time, and touching the child inside me. The beauty of the island is shown in her vivid descriptions along with incredible photos, and her recipes even tempt me, a non-seafood eater. St. Simons Island is now on my 'must visit' list.
